These maracas, Spanish for rattles, are made from hollow gourds filled with seeds, dried beans or small stonesand mounted on wooden handles. Maracas originated in Latin America. Players hold them by their handles, usually in pairs, and shake them. They are frequently used in Latin, especially Caribbean, music.
