The coolamon made from a piece of bark, which is soaked and heated and then molded around a piece of wood to create its distinctive curved sides. The coolamon has many purposes: it can be used as a digger, a storage bowl, a winnowing bowl to separate seeds from their coverings. Larger sizes could be used as baby carriers.
