Egyptian Strategy Board Game: "Ceega"
Collection: Everyday Connections
Ceega is an ancient game, generally believed to have been played during the Egyptian Dynastic period. Ceega is still played today in parts of North Africa. Players alternately place two of their markers on the square Ceega board until all spaces except one are occupied. No captures are made during this deployment phase. The player who placed the last markers then moves one marker one space, attempting to take opponent's markers by sandwiching them between the player's markers. A marker on the central square - usually marked with a cross - is safe from capture. If a player cannot make a legal move, their opponent continues to play until an opening appears. To win, a player must reduce the opponent to one piece (or none). Draws often occur.
