This doll is dressed in clothing to perform the Thai classical dance of Khon.
Khon classical dance dramas are the most stylized form of Thai dance. Khon is performed by troupes of non-speaking dancers, the story being told by a chorus at the side of the stage. Choreography follows traditional models. Costumes are dictated by tradition.
Most khon performances feature episodes from the Ramakien. Ramakien is one of Thailand's national epics, based on the Hindu epic, Ramayana.
