This is a Mexican corn husk doll. Because corn is a staple crop in Mexico, the husks are available to use for artisan pieces.
The husks are removed from the corn, are soaked in water, and shaped to create all parts of the craft being created. Afterwards, they are completely dried in the sun and require no further processing. Shaping the various parts of the doll is time-consuming and a doll can take 8 to 16 hours to make.
The husk is used both in its natural color and dyed for craft-making. This material is durable and long-lasting.
