This doll represents the traditional festive clothing of Barbados. As a result of the importation of Africans as slaves in the 1600 - 1700s, Barbados today is about 90% black.

The biggest celebration on the island is the "Crop Over" Festival. The festival, originating in the 1700s, is to celebrate the harvest of the sugar can crop. The final day of the festival, which lasts from July to August, is Kadooment Day, held on the first Monday of August.
