Clothing is highly valued in the Cambodian culture.  This Cambodian man's shirt, or "hoi" in the Khmer language, is typical of men's formal wear. Such clothing is usually made from silks or fabric replicating silk. The style has been influenced by India - similar shirts for instance were worn by Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in the 1950s  - and has been worn since the Funan era (4th century BC to around 1500s AD).
