This Mexican marionette, called "marioneta," depicts a rural person.

Puppets have a long history in Mexico. The Teotihuacan culture in Central Mexico, around 600 AD, made figurines with moveable arms and legs as part of their funerary rites, but these did not involve strings.

Mexican marionetas often have very intricate designs and craftsmanship; the majority of puppets are hand-crafted. Controlling marionetas is thought to be one of the hardest techniques to learn and it dates back in history, the technique that is used comes from another technique called "Marioneta de Barra".
