This doll is wearing the traditional Malay costume known as "baju kebaya"
Before the 20th century, Malay women still wore kemban bodice wraps in public - just a sarong tied above the chest. Growing Islamic awareness gave rise to more modest clothing. Today, the Malay woman's blouse is long sleeved, often worn with a sarong.
Muslim women add a headscarf, called either the "tudung" or "selendang." The selendang has long been part of the Malay women's wardrobe.
