This sutra manuscript was created in Burma before the country became Myanmar.

The pictorial side of the manuscript shows episodes in the Buddha's life. The language of the manuscript is Burmese.

Monasteries produce their own manuscripts. This is the responsibility of a monk or novice monk. The completed books are then stored in manuscript chests at the monastery.

The technique for making this manuscript came originally from India: Stacked dry palm leaves were cut into a rectangular shape and stitched together with a cord. Two wooden end pieces, called "kammavaca" hold the structure together and protect the fragile pages.
