This Bodhran is a wooden frame drum with a single goat skin head. Inside the hollow side is one or two cross bars.
The drum is usually played in a seated position. The player holds the drum vertically, placing one hand on the inside of the skin. In that way, the player can control the skin's tension and therefore the pitch by applying varying varying amounts of pressure. The drum is played with a double-headed stick called a cipin.
The Irish word bodhran, meaning drum, is mentioned first in the 1600s.
