This Turkmen triangular talisman, known as a "doga," is placed near the doors and windows of traditional Turkmen homes to ward off evil spirits. The Turkmen people also adorn their and their children's costumes to guard against the evil eye. Protective textile ornaments and garments are universally used by men and women.

A simple triangular shaped embroidered pendant is the most common textile decoration. Doga often contain some material, such as a scrap of paper on which a verse from the Qur'an has been written or a special piece of wood, to enhance its talismanic properties.
